Castle Clinton, a brownstone fortification at the base of Manhattan, was designed by Engineer Lt. Col. Jonathan Williams and Architect John McComb, Jr. and constructed between 1808 and 1811. It is part of the second system of fortifications built for the defense of New York City during the War of 1812. JBC was retained. to assist in the restoration of the fort for the National Park Service (NPS). Working with the Contractor, JBC completed a Historic Preservation Treatment Plan for approval by NPS which outlined all work to be performed. JBC also performed a stone-by-stone sounding survey of the exterior and interior of the fort to verify conditions and repair strategies. Restoration work included stone replacement, dutchman repairs, patching, retooling, repointing, and cleaning. JBC performed quality control during the restoration to ensure all repairs are being performed according to the specifications. JBC also implemented conservation treatments to restore the bronze plaques near the entrance to the fort.
