Mary Jablonski

President and Founder

Mary Jablonski is the president and founder of Jablonski Building Conservation, Inc. and has over 26 years' experience in many aspects of historic conservation. She oversees the firm’s projects to ensure a consistent methodology is applied across projects and to maintain quality control.

Mary has special interests in decorative finishes, early 1800s frame buildings, and modern materials including plastics. She is a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation and the Association for Preservation Technology. Mary is an adjunct associate professor in the Historic Preservation Program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University since 2002. She frequently delivers papers on conservation topics including stone deterioration, conserving glass sculptures, paint and finishes analysis, research on types of paint, mid-century fiberglass construction, cemetery restoration, and the practice of conservation. She has published articles on fiberglass, glass, finishes, and decorative interiors.

 

Stephanie M. Hoagland

Principal and Senior Conservator

Stephanie Hoagland joined the firm in 2003 and was promoted to principal in 2012. She works with a wide range of clients with a focus on condition assessments and finishes investigations as well as hands-on conservation treatments for stone, wallpaper, and paint. Stephanie's innovative work on wallpaper treatments in historic museums has been presented at several conferences and has been published through the Book and Paper Specialty Group of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC). She has also delivered papers and published articles on decorative finishes, vernacular and post-war architecture, cemetery conservation, and the impact of heat on architectural finishes. She recently completed testing and presented the findings on the freeze-thaw durability of common restoration mortars. In addition to being a Fellow of and past Chair of the Architecture Specialty Group of AIC, she is also a Recognized Professional with the Association for Preservation Technology.

 

Helen M. Thomas-Haney

Principal and Senior Conservator

Helen Thomas-Haney joined the firm in 2006 and was promoted to principal in 2014. Helen's expertise in developing carefully designed testing programs provide our clients a better understanding of what is possible in restoration and conservation. A second area of expertise is her masonry and ceramic conservation treatments. Helen's special interests include metals, masonry, masonry testing and modern materials. She has written papers and given presentations on a wide range of topics including the conservation of historic concrete, restoration of metals, historic finishes on aluminum, the impact of heat on architectural finishes, and basic masonry investigative techniques. Helen is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation, a Recognized Professional with the Association for Preservation Technology, and is a former board member of the Northeast Chapter of Association for the Preservation of Technology. She was an adjunct assistant professor in the Historic Preservation Program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University from 2011 to 2015.

 

Edward G. FitzGerald

Senior Associate and Senior Conservator

Edward G. FitzGerald joined the firm as an architectural conservator in 2015 and was promoted to senior associate in 2021. Ed's specialties include architectural wood, masonry, and ceramic materials. He brings a meticulous attention to detail to every project. Ed supports the firm with conditions surveys, field and laboratory testing, project management services, and designs and executes innovative conservation treatments. Ed is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation, a Recognized Professional member of the Association for Preservation Technology, and regularly presents at professional conferences. He helps to develop industry standards through his work on ASTM Subcommittee C18.07 on Environmental Properties, Behavior, and Cleaning of Dimension Stone and Subcommittee E06.24 on Building Preservation and Rehabilitation Technology.

 

Kevin Daly

Senior Associate and Senior Conservator

Kevin Daly joined the firm in 2023. He has more than 25 years’ experience in historic preservation, in both architectural conservation and preservation design. Mr. Daly coordinates all phases of assessment, design, client communications, and construction administration of restoration projects. He specializes in conservation of exterior envelope materials including field testing and lab work. Mr. Daly is a graduate of UCLA and of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and has presented papers for organizations including APT, OHNY, HDC, FIT, and Landmarks West! He is a past chair of the AIC Architecture Specialty Group and is currently on the executive board of APT-Northeast and a Special Committee of APTI.

 

Jennifer Kearney

Senior Associate and Senior Conservator

Jennifer Kearney is a Senior Associate and Senior Conservator at JBC and has been with the firm since 2005. Jennifer has worked extensively with architectural finishes including tile restoration, finishes investigations, and plaster restoration. As a conservator, she is also involved in design development and construction supervision for a wide range of restoration projects including transportation hubs, Broadway theaters, public works projects, and historic ruins. She graduated with an MS in Historic Preservation from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and is a Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation and a Recognized Professional member of the Association for Preservation Technology.

 

Gabriela Figuereo

Senior Conservator

Gabriela Figuereo is an architectural conservator who joined the firm in 2019. Gabriela is a graduate of Columbia University’s Master’s program in Historic Preservation (’19). Her thesis research involved petrographic analysis on mortars from two archaeological excavations in Lower Manhattan. Before graduating from Columbia, Gabriela interned at the materials testing laboratory of Highbridge Materials Consulting, Inc. As an undergraduate, she attended a preservation field school in San Gemini, Italy, where she worked on the conservation of a medieval church façade. Gabriela’s interests are in materials analysis and investigative techniques, as well as the history of material use and technological development.

 

Tania Alam

Senior Conservator

Tania is a graduate of Columbia University's Master's Program in Historic Preservation ('17) and joined the firm in 2017. Before graduating from Columbia, Tania interned at Governors Island for the National Park Service where she helped with the restoration of the eagle sculpture atop Fort Jay gateway. Tania earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and is proficient in AutoCAD, and Adobe Suite design programs. Her responsibilities include conducting conditions surveys, field inspections, on-site sampling, and laboratory testing and analysis of mortars and finishes.

 
 

Olivia Manfredi

Conservator

Olivia is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh’s Master’s Program in Architectural Conservation (‘21) and joined the firm in 2022. Her dissertation explored methods of making historic landscapes disability accessible with case studies of proposed and existing interventions in the parks of the historic Edinburgh New Town. Before graduating from the University of Edinburgh, Oliva interned at the National Park Service’s Golden Gate National Recreational Area where she completed historic structure reports. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation and Community Planning from the College of Charleston in 2019.

 

Meris Westberg

Conservator

Meris Westberg is an architectural conservator who joined the firm in 2023. Prior to joining JBC, Meris worked as an inspector on the rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge. In 2021, she received her Master of Science in Historic Preservation from The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design. During graduate school, she concentrated in architectural conservation with an emphasis on preventive conservation and public policy. Her graduate thesis explored policy, risk awareness, and structural adaptation strategies for cultural heritage sites in flood zones. Prior to graduate school, she worked in preventive conservation for the National Gallery of Art and paper conservation for the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. Meris is a member of The American Institute for Conservation’s National Heritage Responders, serving on its working group, and has contributed to The Association for Preservation Technology International’s Inclusion Advocacy Committee.

 

Logan Garrison

Conservator

Logan earned his Masters of Historic Preservation from the University of Kentucky in 2022 and joined the firm in 2023. While pursuing his degree, Logan focused on historic preservation and outdoor recreation, volunteering with the National Park Service and interning at the Kentucky Heritage Council. This culminated in a graduate thesis on historic interpretation along water trails. Since graduating he has worked with the National Park Service at the Gateway National Recreation Area in Staten Island and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. As an undergraduate, he studied framing construction in North Carolina. His interests are preserving public spaces, concrete, and adaptive reuse.

 

Naomi Dressler

Conservator

Naomi Dressler is a 2024 graduate of Columbia University’s Master’s Program in Historic Preservation and joined Jablonski Building Conservation as a conservator in 2024. Her graduate thesis explored challenges related to both the physical and historical neglect of the "Borscht Belt" resorts of the Catskills, interrogating broader questions raised by design challenges associated with similar building typologies, and failures in the preservation of cultural leisure sites for underrepresented user groups. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Art History and Architectural Studies from Trinity College in 2022, where she was an intern for the Hartford Preservation Association in Hartford, Connecticut.

Frank Jackman

Office Manager

Frank Jackman has been JBC’s office manager since 2014 after a wide ranging career in information technology. Frank's responsibilities include all administrative duties for the office and assisting in the preparation of client proposals. He is also involved in the preparation of all aspects of management reporting, client billing and collections. Frank's background in technology has helped JBC automate processes resulting in improved efficiency and cost savings.
